Randy Rathbun

Randy grew up on a farm in Ellsworth County, Kansas, where he learned the value of hard work and listening before speaking. He earned his B.S. in Political Science from Kansas State University in 1975 and his Juris Doctor from Washburn University in 1978, where he served on the Board of the Washburn Law Journal.

Missouri and Kansas Super Lawyers, in its 2024 publication, lists only two trial lawyers in Kansas as “Super Lawyers” in the field of representing employees in employment litigation. Randy is honored to be one of them.

Although much of Randy’s work now focuses on employment law, his first passion was environmental law. He is recognized as one of Kansas’s foremost litigators, advocating for injured individuals and landowners in environmental and toxic exposure cases. He is also an accomplished plaintiff’s trial lawyer in areas such as products liability and catastrophic injury cases.

Randy served as the U.S. Attorney for the state of Kansas from 1993 to 1996, during which time he was a member of Attorney General Janet Reno’s Advisory Committee of U.S. Attorneys. While in this role, he assisted the Department of Justice in prosecuting the Oklahoma City bombing case and helped organize a Violent Crime Task Force in Wichita.

Randy is a member of the Kansas and Wichita Bar Associations. He has been recognized for his expertise in environmental litigation with his inclusion in The Best Lawyers in America since 1995. He has also been listed in Chambers USA: America’s Leading Business Lawyers for his work in plaintiff’s employment and environmental law.

In recognition of his exceptional trial skills, Randy was inducted into the American College of Trial Lawyers in 2002 and the International Academy of Trial Lawyers in 2019. Fellowship in these prestigious organizations is by invitation only, following a rigorous review process.
